Research on hidden workforce in the Garment Industry in Delhi for Save the Children




Save the Children launched a project titled ‘Protecting the rights of children working in the garment industry in Delhi’. The project aimed at eradicating child labour in the garment industry.

To assess the pre project status of children in garment industry, Save the Children hired TRIOs to conduct baseline study as well as estimate the child labor working in garment industry in Delhi.

The objectives of the assignment were as follows:

  • To get an estimate of child labor working in garment industry in the State of Delhi,
  • Study the quality of living standards of children in labor and their families, and problems and prospects of them in context of child labor in garment industry,
  • Understand the nature of garment industry and its supply chain

The study provided inputs on how the existing intervention of Save the Children can be scaled up in the state and suggested the remedial models for withdrawing children from labor in garment industry.

Report submitted to Save The Children titled Hidden Workforce- A Study on Child Labour in the Garment Industry in Delhi” was appreciated by Government of Delhi and committee acknowledge that this report stands crucial to reiterate the drawbacks of allowing children to undertake home based work.
