Study on Utilization of Improved Water Sources and Water Quality

The Study on Utilization of Improved Water Sources and Level of water Contamination in Different Sources has been undertaken in Sheohar district,  Bihar.

  • To map out and understand the contamination levels of Iron in a statistically relevant sample water points in the Sheohar district,  Bihar i.e. in 208 villages to draw a possible mitigation plan to ensure provision of safe water to the communities.
  • Understand Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) of the communities in relation to their preference for accessing water from shallow and deep sources and develop an intervention strategy whereby addressing the issues around demand and use of safe water in Sheohar.
  • It is proposed to conduct primary survey using mixed method approach to assess the utilization of improved water sources and level of iron and bacteriological contamination in different water sources in district Sheohar (Bihar).

In order to realise the study objectives, onsite water testing of the water sources for iron and bacteriological (E.coli.) contamination would be done and further the GIS mapping and contour mapping would be done based on location and contamination level. The KAP study will use structured tools to understand Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) of the communities in relation to their preference for accessing water from shallow and deep sources and develop an intervention strategy, whereby addressing the issues around demand and use of safe water. It is proposed to conduct quantitative survey with target respondents viz. currently married men, currently married women and adolescents.
