ADVISORY GROUP MEETING

ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE AND SEXUAL HEALTH: DEVELOPING A FRAMEWORK FOR ENHANCED ACCESS

To guide the multi-state study on Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health Services (ARSH), that TRIOs is currently undertaking with the support from Ford Foundation,  an advisory group was formed, having as its members Shri A R Nanda, IAS, former Secretary, Family Welfare, GOI; Ms Rita Teaotia IAS, Principal Secretary, Rural Development, Government of Gujarat; Ms Arti Ahuja, IAS, Secretary, DWCD, Government of Orissa; Prof Gita Sen, IIM Bangalore; Dr. Renu Khanna, Sahaj, Gujarat, Dr. Keerti Iyengar, ARTH, Rajasthan, Dr. Rajani Ved, NHSRC and others. 

 

The advisory group met for the second time on 6th January 2012, and discussed the field study findings, the changes proposed in the existing framework for ARSH services and the further course of the project. The main aspects that were presented and discussed in the meeting were – the current state of implementation across the states, the key issues in implementation, the utilization of services by adolescents and the needs expressed by adolescents. Based on the presentation, the advisory group suggested some additional aspects such as life skills education, peer educators approach etc; that could be considered for a comprehensive assessment of the adolescent health issues.
