Capacity building of public health and ICDS personnel to promote the use of Zinc and ORS for the management of childhood diarrhoea in Chhattisgarh- micronutrient initiative (MI) India/ Canada.
MI was the first to implement a demonstration project to promote the use of Zinc and ORS for the management of childhood diarrhoea in Chhattisgarh and Bihar in 2009. This early project provided several lessons for scale-up initiatives in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat, all of which led to increase in Zinc and ORS usage.
Consequently, MI plans to support the Government of Chhattisgarh in implementation of their diarrhoea management program by undertaking capacity building of healthcare service providers in public sector, which is a key component of the program. 27 districts of Chhattisgarh put under two sets of groups i.e. Group-1 and Group-2 having 15 and 12 districts respectively.
TRIOs undertook the training of 3625 block level healthcare personnel from Group 1 with success rate 95% in tribal areas
