Multi State Research: Designing and conducting Multi State baseline study for an integrated quality education program that promotes a holistic or ‘whole-child’ education in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for Majic Bus Foundation program

Magic Bus India Foundation was started 16 years ago and now grown to one of the largest non-profit organization in India with an outreach of over 35 Lakhs children and 8,000 youths in 68 districts and 3000 plus communities spread over 24 states in India.

Magic Bus is planning to implement an integrated quality education program for a five year period, which promotes a holistic or ‘whole-child’ education that takes into account building of cognitive, physical, social, and personal skills over the traditional and still much favored ‘head’ based education in schools across India. The approach of the program would focus on supporting ‘effective learning’ in schools through a comprehensive strategy that relies on thoughtfully designed modular add-ons i.e. Activity Based Curriculum (ABC), Student Teacher Empowerment Program (STEP), and the Science Learning program. The program is planned to be implemented in 18 selected districts in states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan working in close coordination with state education department so as to ensure long term sustainability.

TRIOs  designed and conducted the baseline study for the program to gauge the current levels of knowledge and attitude among the students in the domains of education, socio emotional skills, life skills and gender. The study covered 4 sampled States- Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, using case and control approach and a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods. Under the assignment, the quantitative survey was conducted covering children studying in 6th to 8th standards. The In Depth Interviews (IDIs) with Head Teachers of Schools and FGD with parents and SMC members also be conducted for documenting the qualitative information required to meet the objectives of the assignment. After data collection and analysis; TRIOs submitted key findings and recommendations in the baseline report to guide the program strategies for the next 5 years.
