WASH In Schools Phase II : Water, Sanitation and Hygiene program in Schools for improving Knowledge, Attitude and Practices among school children in Rajasthan under Swachh India- Reckitt Benckiser(RB)
TRIOs is undertaking an assignment using school led campaign strategy for improving health, sanitation and hygiene in Rajasthan i.e. “WASH program in School for improving Knowledge Attitude and Practices among schools children under –“Dettol Banega Swachh India” Campaign. Under the assignment, 1500 teachers were trained in various batches covering 500 elementary schools in 2 blocks of district Jaipur, Rajasthan in 2015-16. The trained teachers further conduct series of BCC sessions with student in their schools, using a structured and pre tested curriculum having 15 sessions. Sessions were conducted using play way methods and demonstrations using games, teaching kits and posters. The mid and mass media activities were also conducted in selected schools through wall paintings on WASH messages, celebration of important days such as World Toilet Day, World Health day and Global Hand Washing Days etc. Hygiene corners and hand washing stations for students were also established in the selected school to practice the learnings from BCC sessions. The third party evaluation of the program shown a significant improvement on key WASH indicators among the school children as well community.
Based on the results of the success of pilot phase in year one, the program has been further extended and scaled up. Under scale up plan for year 2016-17 total 1500 teachers will be trained in the 500 schools in two new blocks of district Jaipur. The modules and teaching aids will also be provided to these schools. The program team would provide handholding support in all the 1000 schools in rolling out the BCC sessions; identify and engage the local champions and SMC members and orient so that program initiatives can be sustained for longer period.
TRIOs team will also monitor the entire process and document the success stories and disseminate it, so that it may have triggering/ inspiring effect among school children, stakeholders and community at large.
