Jayanta Kumar Basu




Dr.Basu, has more than 30 years of experiences in Social sector Research, Monitoring & Evaluation and Project Management in development sector and research agencies.

He has done PhD in Population Studies from Department of Population Studies, Annamalai University, India; Diploma in Population Studies (equivalent to Master in Population Studies-MPS) from International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, India; M.Sc. (Statistics)

He authored several research reports and published papers in peer reviewed journals and also presented papers in several National and International conferences. His areas of interest are: HIV/AIDS, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Nutrition, Gender, Disease surveillance, Health Management Information System, Maternal and Child Health, Family Planning, Child Rights, Child Protection and Child participation, Education, Livelihood issues, Social Audit, e-governance, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Monitoring & Evaluation of development programmes.

During his professional tenure, he worked with several national and international development organisations and reputed research agencies at senior positions, viz. Director- Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation (MLE) at CARE India (deputed to Bihar Technical Assistance Support Team-BTAST); Team Leader at Social Impact, Inc. USA for their USAID funded assignment in India on Process Documentation of Millennium Alliance (MA) grantees and Capacity Building of them with FICCI, etc.

He also worked as Senior Consultant-M&E at World Health Partners (WHP) and coordinated in setting up M&E system in more than 100 Telemedicine centers (TPCs) under BMGF programme in Bihar. He worked as Manager- Monitoring & Evaluation (Global Comprehensive Abortion Care Project) at FPA India. He was responsible to monitor and evaluate project progress against approved indicators and targets using clinical management information systems. He coordinated in setting up Clinical MIS in 17 FPAI clinics across 10 States in India. Prior to that he was Specialist – Research & MIS at Avert Society (HIV/AIDS prevention and Care & Support project in Maharashtra State of India under USAID funding) for 5 years. His responsibilities at Avert Society included preparing a strategic research plan for Maharashtra-India; undertaking formative research (both qualitative and quantitative) related to program objectives in cross cutting areas (targeted interventions, care & support, capacity building and communication) for evidence based interventions and setting up M&E system across 75 NGO sub partners across the State. Prior to his work with Avert Society, he was associated with Family Health International (FHI) as Program Manager for Maharashtra program. During 1986 to 1999, he was associated with several national level research organizations (AC Nielsen-ORG, TNS Mode, etc.) at senior positions. During his tenure with these organizations, he conducted several National level studies including National Family Health Survey-1 (NFHS-1), etc.
