State wide Evaluation of DFID supported SWASTH program in Bihar

Government of Bihar has initiated “Sector Wide Approach to Strengthening Health” SWASTH program with involvement of Health and Family Welfare, Social Welfare and Public Health Engineering Department in all the 38 districts of Bihar. DFID is providing budgetary support and Bihar Technical Assistance Support Team (BTAST) is the technical support group, which provides technical and managerial support to the government in implementing the program in the state.

SWASTH aims at improving health and nutritional status of people in Bihar, particularly the poorest and excluded communities and thereby accelerating the state’s progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). BTAST hired TRIOs to conduct the Endline evaluation of the program.

Currently, TRIOs is conducting the concurrent monitoring round 2 survey to assess the health, nutrition and WASH indicators in all 38 district of Bihar   using CAPI devices covering a sample of about 3.45 lac respondents from 1.40 lac households. That target groups covered under the survey include ever-married women , un married adolescent girls, decision maker (Mother in law or husband). Anthropometric measurement for children under 5 years of age is also being carried out.  Besides HH survey, information from  field level workers (FLWS) has also been captured, and finally all information will be triangulated and visual maps of indicators using GIS or similar software would be prepared.
